Dramatic surveillance video captured the moment when many bricks rained on a quiet street outside Boston when the building suddenly collapsed on Sunday morning.
“We woke up at 9:30 this morning and 10:00. Brookline, Massachusetts resident Elliot Wayne told WFXT-TV News. “Like playing with kids on a regular Sunday morning. In fact, it sounded like the earthquake a few weeks ago.”
The three-storey building at 50 Vernon St. was under construction in the sky and fell down around 10am. Police said in a Facebook post.
Miraculously, no one was injured, officers said.
“It appears the building was under construction and vacant at the time of the collapse and no injuries appear to have been reported,” police said. “Some of the adjacent buildings were evacuated as a precaution.”
In the video footage, bricks slam the snowy SUV and pull out an iron fence across the street.
Police said an investigation into the cause of the collapse is currently underway.
Brookline is part of Boston's metropolitan area and is the boundary between the city's six neighbourhoods.
“It could have been anyone driving, and someone would have been killed,” the neighbor said.
