Energy secretary blasts 'sinister' zero carbon emissions goal

Energy secretary Chris Wright denounced efforts to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by the middle of the century, calling it a “sinister goal” in a statement at a conservative policy meeting on Monday.

“The Net Zero 2050 is an ominous goal, and it's a terrible goal,” Wright applauded at the Alliance for the London Responsible Citizenship Forum, where he spoke through a video link. “Both of them are not possible through practical means [and] pursuing it proactively – and you are sitting in a country that is actively pursuing this goal – did not bring any benefits, but it brought about a great deal of costs. ”

Wright, a former fracking executive, insisted that countries that set net zero goals simply “export the industry.”

“This is not an energy transition, this is insane,” he said. He said in 2023 that there was “no climate crisis and there was no in the middle of the energy transition.”

The Biden administration set a goal in 2021 to reach net zero by 2050, but Wright and President Trump have been working to renew their renewable energy predecessors to return to promoting fossil fuel development since inauguration. I worked to roll back many of my promotions. Carbon and other greenhouse gas emissions are the main causes of climate change.

Wright's fellow Trump Ministerial Member Home Secretary Doug Burgham set his state's net-zero target by 2030 when he served as governor of North Dakota. Burgham, who led the country's third largest oil producer, speaks up and supports the notion that Net Zero is achievable without using a barely tested carbon capture technology to reduce fossil fuel production I did.

Wright's remarks came days after he granted the initial approval of the Trump administration's liquefied natural gas (LNG) export project. This is another policy reversal after the Biden administration freezes new LNG export approvals to investigate climate change and impacts on consumer energy prices.
