Judge Spars with DOJ Lawyer over Pronouns at Trans Military Ban Hearing

A US district judge sparred with a lawyer representing the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Tuesday on Tuesday on the use of pronouns related to President Donald Trump's ban on transgender people in the military.

US District Judge Ana C. Reyes argued during the hearing that an order to stop Trump administration's military from halting the use of favorable gender pronouns would not affect combat readiness.

“I understand that the rational people with common sense aren't,” Judge Reyes told Justice Department attorney Jason C. Lynch.

Reyes, appointed by former President Joe Biden in 2023, pressed Lynch to find a commissioned soldier to testify that the use of a favourable pronoun hurts combat readiness. She even went on to call the Trump administration's position “silly.”

“A group of trans and future service members sued last month to block Trump's orders banning transgender people from joining or serving in the military.” It's attracting attention NBC News. “The order also directed the Department of Defense to “use of invented termination and identification-based pronouns.” ”

In another exchange, Judge Reyes also argued that the Trump administration's orders were “ramping on Animus.”
