Kentucky Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell, 83, is finally decided 18 years later that he would not run for reelection in 2026.
“My fellow Kentuckians sent me to the Senate seven times. Every day during that time I am humbled by the trust they place within me to do their business,” he said in the Senate. He spoke in a speech on the floor. “To represent our Federation was a once-in-a-lifetime honor.”
“I will not seek this honour for the eighth time,” he continued. “My current term in the Senate will be my last.”

“He has been elected seven times as the longest Senate leader in US history,” she continued. “To celebrate his birthday, he decided he would announce to the world that he would not run for reelection. Honestly, this was more of a present for us.”
