UFC legend Georges Saint-Pierre said sports psychologists persuaded him to carry bricks in their opponent's name after his final defeat.
After St. Pierre defeated his fellow legendary Matt Hughes, he admitted he was considered one of the greatest, and French Canadians exploded when his popularity grew He said he did.
“I remember everyone telling me how good I was and this and that, and I was like a new thing, do you know? New kids on the Brock. [though] I [had] I wasn't rog arrogant, so I started to feel a false sense of security in a way,” he recalled.
The GSP said that even his close aides were worried about Hughes' fight, but then helped his ego bulge.
When he came in, this eventually worked against the fighter planes. UFC 69 It was April 2007, about five months after he defeated Hughes. At that event, he lost with a dismayed TKO by Matt Serra.
St. Pierre remembered losing confidence when criticism was poured in, and being labeled “mentally weak” and thought that everyone wasn't as good as he thought he'd thought it was.
“A little of these things will reach you,” GSP told Serra about him. Podcasts“Going out with Matt Sera.”
“Can you remove the bricks? That's ridiculous!”
Saint-Pierre's new obsession was “troubling” his mind, hoping to leave the athlete “angry” to himself, “go back and erase that mistake.” This led Saint-Pierre to hire a sports psychologist. A sports psychologist told him to carry a brick with Serra's name on his gym bag.
“He let me carry bricks into my training bag with your name “Sera.” And I carried it in my bag for weeks and weeks and weeks, and it was getting heavy,” recalls St. Pierre.
It sounded like St-Pierre was referring to Cinderblock, considering Welterweight recalled how his bag went up the stairs at his gym.
“I was calling him, I said, 'Can I get rid of the brick? That's ridiculous!” He said, 'No, no, no,' and I continued carrying it. ”
Saint Pierre said that the psychologist ultimately forced him to drive away the bricks. Five more months later he was in a fight with Josh Koscheck, which resulted in the memorial being thrown into the river.
“It sounds strange, but that's what I've revealed. [was relieved]and I was able to focus solely on Josh Koscheck. Because if I hadn't done it, I would have lost that fight too. ”
12 days after losing to Serra, St. Pierre beat him in a rematch UFC 83however, he showered with praise from the Americans for their march to the title.
“It's a beautiful story, it's like a Rocky to the Russians,” St. Pierre told Serra.
“There's a lake somewhere in Canada with a brick-oned lake with my name on it. Does George exist?” Serra jokingly asked.
St. Pierre fought for another decade, but never lost again, and Serra admitted that Brick might have saved him.
