Some commentators have called for MSNBC's decision to cancel several shows, including former host Joy Reed, “racist.”

Orberman argued that the network's “racism” was blatant, citing that the network was unable to cancel hosts Stephanie Roule or Katie Tar as “cover.”
“They didn't even try to hide racism by firing unnecessary white anchors like Tur and Ruhle as covers,” he said. I wrote it On blue skis.

On her Monday evening show, Maddow tore MSNBC over the network's decision to cancel Reid and Wagner's show, calling the move a “bad mistake.”
“I love everything about her. I learned a lot from her. I have a lot more to learn from her,” Madou said at her 9pm show. “I don't want to lose her as a colleague here at MSNBC. Personally, I think it's a bad mistake for her to leave the door. It's not my phone and I understand it. But , that's what I think.”

Reed had a history of making inflammatory statements directed primarily at conservatives on her show. On November 5th, she attacked “white women” for not supporting former vice president Kamala Harris in the presidential election.
Reed also labeled Arizona Senator Mark Kelly as “Wonderbread mayonnaise sandwich” during the 2024 campaign, claiming that Russia was black and odd, with guests saying Judge Clarence Thomas, who claimed he laughed when he faced the Supreme Court's associate meeting, and the desire to have children resembles white supremacy.
