ICE arrests 16 illegal immigrants in Mississippi worksite raid

Federal immigration agents arrested 16 illegal immigrants trying to flee Mississippi's businesses during workplace raids, authorities said.

The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the US Border Patrol and other agencies were at Gulf Prestress Partners in Pass Christian, the Gulf Coast, and carried out workplace raids.

“While serving paperwork and interviewing employees, agents observed a large group of individuals running from behind business real estate,” the ICE news release said.

Agents caught 18 people from Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras. The two captured were released with an immigration court date and work permit.

One of the 18 was a 16-year-old Mexican citizen who was detained by the Refugee Resettlement Bureau.

Under federal law, employers must verify the identity and employment eligibility of all workers, Ice said.

Workplace raids did not exist during the Biden administration. Under President Donald Trump, border and immigration officials have pressed operations to target illegal immigrants, particularly those with criminal records.
