A drunk driver celebrating his birthday has been charged with murdering a 19-year-old college student in Miami Beach.
When officers caught up with 24-year-old Nicholas Robinson, he became extremely furious during a wreck on a deadly Friday morning, saying he “doublely don't know” what he did. WPLG-TV News.
“Why are you stopping me?” he allegedly told the police. “It's my birthday, and did you get another car?”
Police say crashes have killed Gabriella Flores, a student at Florida International University from El Salvador.
Robinson was initially charged with drunken driving and reckless driving, but during his court appearance Tuesday, the charges were upgraded to a vehicle manslaughter charge.
“He's here because he's driving at speed. I think he hit a car westward on MacArthur Causeway right after midnight on February 21,” Miami-Dade County Judge Mindy Glaser said WPLG reported. “They say he was driving 100 mph in a 40 mph zone, he was making speeches, smelling alcoholic drinks.
“In fact, he didn't even know he'd hit another car,” the judge said. “He said, 'Did you get another car?” He hit the car, the victim was kicked out and he said he was celebrating his birthday. So I think it was his birthday and the day of his victim's death. ”
According to court records, Robinson is being held at Miami-Dade Prison on $100,000 bail.
