James Cameron says US under Trump is ‘horrifying’ as he becomes New Zealand citizen | James Cameron

James Cameron expressed his reassurance that he is becoming a New Zealanderian in the aftermath of Donald Trump's reelection as US president, saying that the US under Trump will “go away from the decent.”

The 70-year-old filmmaker asked how worried he was about Trump's second season New Zealand outlets: “I think it's scary, I think it's scary… I think it's going to move everything away from decent. America doesn't stand for anything that's historically present. I think it becomes a blank idea and they're screaming it as quickly as possible for their own good.”

The Titanic director has owned a large dairy farm in South Wairarapa since 2012 and has long expressed plans to move forever to New Zealand, where he made an avatar film in Weta Digital in Wellington.

Cameron acknowledged the global reach of US politics, saying, “I don't know if I feel safer here, but I feel like I don't need to read about it on the front page every day. And it's just making me feel sick. There's something good about the New Zealand outlet. I'll put it on at least three pages… I don't want to see that guy's face on the paper front page anymore. It's inevitable, it's like seeing a car crash over and over again.”

He said his New Zealand citizenship is “immediate” and “it means a lot. It's something I worked on and something I had to sacrifice. If you uproot your family and move somewhere, you have to invest, you have to be a part of it, you have to gain position. I think you have to earn the right to be in a place.”

Cameron likened New Zealand to the country of Canada's birth, saying, “I grew up in Canada, and I see a lot of similarities in the way people act. I actually like it a little here. There's a demand for innate respect and respect. Everyone has this kind of equal status when it comes to personality. And I love it – that's what I wanted my kids to experience.”

In 2023, Cameron announced his intention to adopt it.Young blood“To the New Zealand film industry. “It's like I'm talking on behalf of a large international production, but I live here. I'm going to become a citizen in a year and make all the films here in Wellington. I love working here. I love the people I work with here,” he said.
