Trump is acting as a ‘peacemaker’ between Ukraine and Russia: Rubio

Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Sunday pushed critics back at President Donald Trump's approach to end the war in Ukraine, saying the president is a “peace superintendent.”

Rubio made a comment when he appeared on ABC News “This Week,” telling host George Stevenapoulos that he was facing an attack just because he was Trump.

“We should at least see if there is a way to embrace this war on both sides and end it in a lasting and sustainable way? How is that a bad thing?” Rubio said.

“I'm really why everyone thinks it's a bad thing to try to become a Peacemaker. When Donald Trump is trying to do it, that's bad. When it's President Trump, that's absurd to me.”

Rubio continues to reject the allegations that Trump is working to appease Russia and Vladimir Putin, reaching out to everything the administration has done, saying, “Are you willing to talk about peace?”

Rubio's appearance comes days after an explosive meeting with Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance and Ukrainian President Voldy Mil Zelensky at the White House last week.

The meeting ended with a cry, with Trump claiming that Ukraine would not “have the card” to continue fighting Russia, and that negotiated peace was the best way to do it.

Trump later accused Zelensky of “disregarding” the United States during a meeting on Friday, saying Ukrainian leaders were not prepared to ensure peace in their country.

Trump says that the trade in rare earth minerals in Ukraine will lead to a “sustainable” future between us, Ukraine

“We feel our involvement gives him a great advantage in negotiations, so President Zelensky has decided that if America is involved, he is not ready for peace,” Trump told the Truth Social Post on Friday. “I don't want any advantage, I want peace. He downplayed the United States in his precious oval office. He can come back when he is ready for peace.”

Zelensky visited Washington amid negotiations to end the war in Ukraine and was expected to sign a mineral agreement that would allow the United States to access Ukrainian minerals in exchange for the US providing the country since the Russian invasion in 2022.
