Rounds calls Russia 'aggressor,' says someone must 'find a middle ground' in Ukraine war

Sen. Mike Round (Rs.D.) on Sunday called Russia “an invader” in the war in Ukraine, saying someone was “standing in the middle” to “find the center” in the conflict.

“Russia is the invaders. Obviously they are enemies in this particular case, but someone has to stand in the middle and try to find the middle ground to reach the ceasefire to stop the killing,” the round told News Nation's Chris Starwald on “The Hill Sunday.” “I think that's where the president wants in this case.”

The round's comments come after a tense, oval office meeting between President Trump, Ukrainian President Voldy Mie Zelensky and Vice President Vance on Friday.

After the meeting, Trump said on his true social platform that the Ukrainian president “is not ready for peace because he feels that our involvement is giving him a great advantage in negotiations when America is involved.”

Trump has concluded the war between Russia and Ukraine, with Russian authorities meeting in Saudi Arabia last month.

The meeting was hit by Democrats targeting the White House, what Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) calls “a total embarrassment in America.”

“The US President is a cowardly sick person, a puppet of Vladimir Putin,” Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) said in an interview after the meeting. “The US vice president is the co-public puppet, Porg, a Donald Trump doll, and the co-public. So what we witnessed was a meeting in an oval office between two co-public puppets and the hero.”

In an interview on The Hill Sunday, Round said, “The only type of lasting peace with Putin is forcing,” and “I believe Zelensky got lost in the discussion.
