Will Borgen steals show with wicked shot, goal during Rangers’ win

Will Borgen has been praised for what he has brought defensively to the Rangers since his arrival in New York through trade from Seattle.

But in the Islanders' 4-0 defeat on Monday, it was his shot that stole the show.

“[His shot blocking] Director Peter LaViolett spoke about Borgen, who was missing in two blocks. “He's been great since he came like this. His skating and defending ability makes the opposite difficult. He's physical, he plays with the edge. He plays well to get out of our end. And you love watching him dive into such a play.

“He has the skills. It was a great shot. A big goal at the time. I'm really happy with the way he came here and played for us.”

The 28-year-old Blueliner has made the Rangers' backend very stable and skated in pairs with K'Andre Miller in the last 27 games.

Borgen appears to have an evil shot at Arsenal as well, and appears to have been on display at the end of the first period on Monday night.

Will Quill shot Sam Carrick at Spring Sam Carrick near the blue line before Borgen joined.

Carrick left a drop pass for Borgen. Borgen aimed for a predatory goal to give the Blueshirt a 2-0 lead.

“The Cools play nicely, hit and play, to put out the puck,” Borgen said. “Sammy was going, I looked at a small room, I joined together and he had a nice drop pass for me. I felt lucky.”

As for how Quill stepped up into the play, Borgen said:

Cuylle shot Boink out of Zac Jones' helmet in the 17th goal of the season and shot Islander goalkeeper Ilya Sorokin.

He gave Cuylle the seventh multi-point game of the season, earning six points (4 goals, 2 assists) in the final seven games.

Matt Lempe received no supplemental discipline due to an elbow hit at predator defender Nick Blankenberg.

After scoring in a game against the Predators, Brett Berard has two goals and three assists in the final eight games against the Rangers.

“It's great, I'm playing with bees [Brennan Othmann]I love those people,” Johnny Brozinski said. “It's great to see. Especially the bees were sent and he was very angry about it. I told him, 'You're going to get another shot.' I'm glad to see him place one behind the net. You could see, it didn't matter if the game was 8-0 or not and he was still going to celebrate like that. It's the type of personality he has, he's fiery, it's great. ”
