Why female Dem lawmakers are wearing pink to Trump’s address to Congress

They have issued a statement.

Dozens of female Democrats have arrived in the room of their house dressed in pink pantsuits to send a message to Republicans and President Trump.

Rep. Teresa Leger Fernández (D-NM) led the 96 Democratic women's caucus and explained to Time Magazine. Pink is intended “It shows protests against Trump's policies that have negative effects on women and their families.”

“Pink is the colour of power and protest,” she told the outlet.

“It's time to revive the opposition and come loudly and clearly to Trump. Women have previously worn pink against Trump, and we'll do it again.”

Women in the Democratic Congress had previously adjusted their outfits, wearing white twice in their first term in Trump's first term in a nod to suffrage who fought for women's rights to vote.

The clan wore white to former President Joe Biden's union speech last year, bringing attention to reproductive rights.

Not everyone wearing pink line up with the Democratic Women's Caucus. There are also several Republicans who wear pink, including Rep. Mary Miller (R-Ill).

A New Mexico official cited several issues regarding the Trump administration, claiming that the president's policies have negative effects on women, particularly women from working-class backgrounds.

Leger Fernández said the woman is bearing the brunt of Trump's latest initiative.

“The women in my district are scared, indiscriminate, inconsistent, chaotic, and losing their jobs to mass shootings,” Leger Fernandez told the outlet.

“When a woman loses her job, she loses the ability to care for her family. I think it's important to see the face and pain that Trump, my Republican colleagues and the nation are inflicting on America and the services we depend on.”

The 47th president has addressed a joint session of Congress in his first major speech on Tuesday night since taking office in January.

According to an excerpt released by the White House, Trump declares under his leadership that “American momentum has returned.”

“Over the past six weeks, I have signed nearly 100 executive orders and have taken more than 400 enforcement measures to restore common sense, security, optimism and wealth across our wonderful land,” Trump says.

“People chose me to do my job, and I do that. In fact, many have said that the first month of the presidency is the most successful in our country's history.”
