Trump’s Address to Congress Was a ‘Campaign Speech’

CNN anchor Jake Tapper on Tuesday said of a network of presidential speeches to Congress that President Donald Trump gave a “campaign speech.”

“We're closing our first speech to Congress since President Trump returned to power. In the moment, we're going to hear a democratic response from Michigan Sen. Elissa Slotkin, but um, it was a campaign speech in some way. This was quite different in many ways. He spoke about tariffs. He talked about borders. He brought some cultural issues.”

He added: “There was an emotional moment with the Americans. One 13-year-old suffering from a brain tumor became an honorary secret service agent. It was destructive. Rep. Al Green, a Texas Democrat, had to stand and scream and be escorted to the president. I think he was saying that the president had no order to remove Medicaid. Many Democrats were unhappy with the president's speech, known for walking and holding signs.”
