VA Gov. Youngkin Grants Clemency to Ex-Cop Convicted in Unarmed Man’s Death

Virginia's Republican governor granted leniency on Sunday to a former police officer sentenced to prison in connection with the fatal shooting of an unarmed man in 2023.

Gov. Glenn Youngkin's decision comes two days after 36-year-old Wesley Shiflett was sentenced three years after Barr, Fox News It has been reported on tuesday.

Shiflett was found guilty of recklessly dealing with a firearm in a February 22, 2023 incident outside Tyson Corner Center in Fairfax County. The shooting killed 37-year-old Timothy McCree Johnson. He was accused of stealing sunglasses from a shopping centre store.

The current former police officer has been acquitted of involuntary manslaughter in the case. In his statement, Youngkin said:

I am confident that court prison sentences are unfair and violate the foundations of our judicial system. I would like to emphasize that the ju-secretary judge acquitted the sergeant. Shiflett is a more serious charge of involuntary manslaughter, and a conviction in which the sentencing guidelines recommend prison hours or up to six months in prison.

He was granted leniency, but the former Fairfax County official is still convicted of a felony.

Before the shooting, security guards warned police that Johnson allegedly stole sunglasses from Nordstrom's store. Shiflett and another officer chased an unarmed man outside the mall.

Shiflett shot twice with Johnson. While speaking in court, a former official said he fired fire at the man in self-defense because he believed Johnson reached for his waistband after he collapsed.

Body camera footage show The moment the officer chased Johnson on foot, he eventually approached him, making it look like a forested area.

Hearing a sound of gunshots, officers said “Fire it! Shot!” Police said Johnson was once shot in the chest and was declared dead at a local hospital, following the March 2023 ABC 7 Chicago report.

During the pursuit, Shiflett reportedly told Johnson to get to the ground before the shot rang. After a while, Shiflett appears to have yelled Johnson to “stop reaching.” Johnson reportedly told officers he had no reach for anything and had nothing.

We said Blue's executive director Melissa Robye said the mother of a former staff member asked for help as his sentence approached. As a result, the Lobby's efforts have resulted in Shiflett's lawyers lobbying generosity to the governor.

“Someone has to say, 'Sufficient is enough.' These guys put that uniform on a daily basis – they're there for your worst day. When is it time to stand up for them? “Robby said.

In January, Youngkin blew up the then-President Joe Biden (D) for admitting his generosity to two criminals who killed a police officer, Breitbart News reported.

“I'm beyond President Biden's enragedness to announce the tolerance of Felone Claiborne and Terrence Richardson.
