'This is not normal': Who held up the protest sign before Trump's speech?

(Nexstar) – President Donald Trump entered the room Tuesday night and prepared to address both Houses of Congress, he lined up and shook hands with Republicans to meet him. Just above the president's shoulder You may have found a small handwritten sign. “This is not normal,” I read in black ink.

The sign was supported by Rep. Melanie Stansbury, a Democrat who represents New Mexico's First District, in the House of Representatives covering the Albuquerque area.

Seconds later, as Trump goes down the line of supporters, he sees a sign torn from Stansbury's hand by House Republican Lance Gooden in Texas. Stansbury continues to stand, not applause, as Trump moves towards Days.

Stansbury, a native of New Mexico, first won the national office in 2021, filling his seat when Rep. Deb Haaland was tapped as former President Joe Biden's Secretary of Home Affairs.

Before joining the House, she worked for the state legislature and the White House Office of Management and Budget as a staff member on the Senate Committee. Her platform location includes conserving natural resources, fighting climate change and dealing with food insecurity.

Since Trump took office in January, Stansbury has advocated for the inclusion of measles outbreaks (growing in New Mexico). Program protection Serving Native American tribes.

Stansbury wasn't the only Democrat to protest Trump's speech. Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) was taken from his room by House Sergeant after he stood up and seized the president.

Another group of House Democrats turned their backs during their speech to reveal a message directed at the president, written on the back of a black t-shirt. Some read “Resistance,” while others said, “the king does not live here,” Hill reported. They then left their agreement room.

After the speech lasted more than an hour, other Democrats also left the room. The statement was eventually recorded in the 99th minute.
