Democrat congressman dies suddenly after Trump address

A Texas Democrat died suddenly Tuesday night shortly after attending President Donald Trump's speech.

A few weeks ago, the person in charge. Sylve Star Turner (D-Texas) was sworn in to represent the Texas District 18 in the US Congress. He was just elected in November and served in that seat for nearly 30 years after the death of Senator Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas).

Like many of his colleagues in Washington, D.C., Turner attended Trump's speech at a joint Congress session Tuesday night. He even brought along Angela Hernandez, the mother of a child with special needs, as a guest.

Earlier that day, Turner and Hernandez were filming a short video about Trump's impending speech. Turner then shared the video on social media.

However, at some point in the evening, Turner began to feel sick. He spoke but Kia On camera, the outlet reported and he was immediately taken to a community hospital where he died. He was 70 years old.

Turner said, “I never forgot where he came from.”

Turner has faced several important health challenges in recent years. In 2022 he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. Osteosarcoma is a type of bone cancer that has affected the jaw, Kia reported. He then underwent surgery and endured several weeks of radiation.

In the video with Hernandez, Turner appears to be difficult to talk, but it is unclear whether his struggle was due to pain or whether his previous treatment is unknown. His cause of death is similarly unknown.

Although Turner only spent a few weeks in the sacred halls of the US Congress, he had a long political career, dating back to 1988, first elected to the Texas State Legislature.

In 2016, 25 years after representing the state, Turner managed to run to Mayor of Houston, the city in which he was born. He completed his second term as mayor January 2024.

His successor, Mayor John Whitmire (D), issued a statement about Turner's death, calling it “a terrible loss for the city.” Whitmire also praised the late Congressman for pulling himself out of poverty and becoming “a surprising civil servant who has influenced millions of people.”

“I never forgot where he came from,” Whitmire said with praise.

Kia claimed that Turner “has a strong background in public service and community advocacy,” but on all accounts he governed from the left. Turner was once married Cheryl Turnera lawyer for a former Houston area aide who pleaded guilty in 2006 for misuse of contracted funds. However, by the time of her conviction, the couple had already been divorced for 15 years.

Turner survived by them daughter, Ashley Turner's Captain.
