Top aide to Ukrainian President Voldy Mie Zelensky said a meeting between Washington and the Kiev delegation was scheduled for “the near future” and further discussions have been made on peace negotiations that could end the Three Years' War in Eastern Europe.
Andri Yelmac, Zelensky's Chief of Staff; I wrote it on Wednesday He and national security adviser Mike Waltz “discussed the next steps to just and lasting peace.”
“We also exchanged opinions on security issues and alignment of position within the framework of bilateral relations between Ukraine and the United States,” Yermak said on Social Platform X.
Zelensky mentioned the developing dialogue between the two sides in his daily speech on Wednesday.
“Everyone can see how quickly diplomatic events are developing. Today, our Ukrainian and US teams are beginning to work on meetings.” Zelensky said. “There's a positive movement.”
The debate between Yermak and Waltz came when Trump administration officials confirmed Wednesday that the US had stopped sharing intelligence news with Ukraine.
“We're taking a step back and suspending and reviewing every aspect of this relationship,” Waltz told reporters.
“But I just got off the phone before I left here with my counterpart, the Ukrainian national security adviser,” Waltz added. “We have a good talk about the place for the next negotiation, the delegation, the entity.”
CIA director John Ratcliffe said in an interview that the suspension of sharing intelligence news with Ukraine was intended to rethink Zelensky's current approach to peace negotiations as the nations fighting against Russia will fight.
Former House GOP MP Ratcliffe in a statement from the Ukrainian president this week, he signed a mineral contract and expressed his intention to pursue a peace debate, adding that it shows that the US approach is working.
“In the military front and the intelligence front, I think the pause that allowed it to happen will go away. And I think we'll work shoulder-to-shoulder with Ukraine, as we have to push back the attacks there, but putting the world in a better place for these peace negotiations to move forward,” Ratcliffe said.
The Trump administration also temporarily suspends aid to Ukraine.
For some time, Trump has pushed to reach a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia. The president spoke to both Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin in January.
Zelensky, Trump and Vice President Vance dropped out in their oval office on Friday. The Ukrainian delegation left early and the scheduled press conference was cancelled.
Since then, Trump has expressed his openness to continue his dialogue with Ukraine, leading to a ceasefire in Eastern Europe. Zelensky described Friday's huddle as “remorse,” claiming that Kiev is open to writing a mineral agreement and that Ukraine is ready to take part in the peace debate.
“Our meeting in Washington on Friday at the White House wasn't exactly what it should have been, and it's a shame that it happened like this,” Zelensky wrote Tuesday. “It's time to get things right.”
“We hope that future cooperation and communication will be constructive,” he added.
