Bayhill showed his teeth Thursday, turning Ernie's location into a horrifying US open venue. The 72 field 54 players signed above the perscore. Max Homa and Cameron Young shot the 80s and older, but the latter was shot from the boundary when his opening tee was shot. Meanwhile, Homa has struggled for almost ten months now, far from the top 10 players he was a year ago.
But the player who suddenly didn't succumb to the difficult challenge was Wyndham Clark. Clark fired the fantastic 5-under 67 and currently outscored Keegan Bradley, Shane Laurie, Christian Bezidenhout and Corey Connors. His caddy, John Ellis, fell ill and was unable to carry his bag, but that didn't stop the 2023 US Open Championship. Instead, Clark had a great scorecard, with one with only six birdies and one bogey. It's an impressive round on the day the field made bogeys of 275 and doubles of 54 or less.
Other notable figures on the front page of the leaderboard include Rory McIlroy and World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who are sitting at 2 and 1 under, respectively.
