Veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins took a big step towards determining his future on Wednesday, meeting with Falcons owner Arthur Blank to discuss his potential future with the franchise.
My cousin said he wanted to play on a team he could start with. Reported by Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.
After a four-year, long-term four-year deal of $180 million, Cousins was benched last year with the Falcons, last year's offseason, for first-round pick Michael Penix.
The once highly sought after quarterback reportedly attracted attention from multiple teams despite his inadequate ending until 2024.
However, Atlanta is not moving yet.
According to Athletic Diana Lassinithe team asking about his cousin is informed by the Falcons that he is not going anywhere.
Lassini added that It's not expected that cousins will be cut – At least for now – and that no trade talks have been raised.
During his meeting with Blank, Cousins reportedly laid out priorities for selecting a new team.
The four-time Pro Bowler has a premium on his ability to return to the first game.
After six seasons with the Vikings, Cousins joined the Falcons in 2024, recording 18 passing touchdowns and 16 interceptions leading the league in the air for 3,508 yards before sitting in the final three games.
Atlanta was 7-7, and their cousins began, finishing 8-9, missing the playoffs for the seventh year in a row.
Atlanta appears to be poised to commit to Penix, who has started three games and appeared in five.
Penix threw for 775 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions.
The University of Washington alum was surprisingly drafted in the eighth overall overall draft despite being signed to a long-term contract a few weeks ago.
My cousin will not become a free agent until 2028.
