After rumors of a potential candidacy for Stephen A. Smith began to swirl, the ESPN host decided to stir the pot further by placing Candice Owens on his show.
“When that young woman speaks, don't even think about challenging her intelligence. Don't even think about challenging her ability to clarify her perspective. When you come to her, you know better about the hell you're talking about,” Smith said after an interview with a conservative powerhouse.
“Some people have made mistakes and think that Stephen A has some interest in running as a Republican or launching a political career as a Republican,” Jason Whitlock in the “fearless” comment.
“He's a hardcore Democrat. He's just pretending he's a reasonable Democrat,” he adds.

“I thought it was an intellectual discrepancy,” Steve Kim said after watching an interview with Owens.
“If there's a broadcasting character that should be run for the president or any kind of office, it's Candice. Not Stephen A. Smith,” says Kim. “Steven, you're not that intelligent about this, so there's a lot you don't know.”
“You're not really, and you're a bit of a caricature. You like to blow away, you're chewing great sounds, but that interview would have shown that he's completely overmatched, along with more serious people in a discussion environment,” he continues.
And it's not just that he's not built intellectually for positions, but he doesn't have the courage either.
“One thing I like about Candice is whether I agree with her or not, it's irrelevant, so whether I agree with her or not. No one is going to agree with anyone about everything. But when she takes the hardline position, she never tries to soften it.”
“In other words, she planted a flag and said, 'This is what I think. If you don't like it, I don't care,” he continues. “The problem with Stephen A. Smith is, I don't think he has the courage, I really am not.”
“I think you're right that he doesn't have the courage,” replies Whitlock. “And maybe they don't have a stomach for the political position.”
“As a politician, I believe you have to be able to take a hardline stance and stick to them. Kim chides, “You have to say something really meaningless about the other side to give the air that you're not biased.”
