Police sources say the winding NYPD detective, who went viral after starring in a slutty rap video after starring in a thong and revealing bra, will no longer investigate active cases in the special victims department.
A NYPD spokesperson said Melissa Mercado's actions were under review. When asked if a seven-year NYPD veteran had broken certain rules when he appeared in the “Doin That That” video by Hempstead Rapper S-Quire, the department didn't answer immediately.
Pitch Perfect, directing the music video, I told TMZ on Friday He and the rapper hired Mercado from the casting agency and were unaware of her day's work.
“None of us knew what her main occupation was…,” the director said.
This video was posted by the online site WorldStarhiphop.
She was not named in the clip – it quickly made a round between ranks and files – and she was not wearing anything identifying her as the best member of the city.
Retired NYPD Special Victims Director Michael Osgood was particularly worried about making videos of sex crime investigators degraded to women.
“I don't think this is a response to police officers,” he said. “If you're a special victim detective, I think it's morally wrong.”
Mercado should be disciplined, said retired police officer and lawyer Eric Sanders.
“She should be fixed,” Sanders said. “What she did is contradict the value of being a police officer. Police work is a noble profession and should look in a certain way.”
Mercado joined the military in 2018, a third-year detective who was assigned to special Bronx victims, $144,000 a year.
Pitch Perfect claimed to TMZ that since appearing in S-Quire's song, Mercado has become the sought after dancer for other rap videos.
“Everyone loved this model,” the director said, and S-Quire agreed, calling her a “beautiful woman.”
“I reached out to a lot of artists to try and put her in the video,” Pitch Perfect told the outlet, “If you look at it like that, it might be great for her. I think she'll win.”
“She was one of the stars,” the director added.
Mercado did not return calls from the post. By Saturday, the “Do It” video had received over 1.6 million views.
