Angel Reese misses multiple layups in viral video after pay complaint comments

WNBA player Angel Leas may not have helped negotiate leverage on Monday with a low light on the virus.

During an unparalleled game, Reese missed three straight shots while standing just below the basket, with one shot hitting the bottom edge of the backboard.

Reese managed to leave at least two offensive rebounds on his property, but fell to hardwood after missing his third shot.

The footage of the sequence quickly spread to social media, and many laughed at the timing after Reese sparked a controversy with recent claims.

Lease and fellow WNBA players Dihony Carrington During the leasing podcast on Friday, we addressed the following WNBA collective bargaining agreement:

“I have to attend meetings because I hear, 'If we don't give us what we want, we're sitting there,'” Reese said.

WNBA Don't pay my bill at all. I don't even think it will pay one of my bills. literally. “

Sports comedy X account “Hater Report” posted a video where Rays lost with the caption, “Angel Reese deserves more money. Please her.”

Other users participated in a parade of sarcasmy comments.

“Give her Max,” one user wrote.

Another joked, “Please give this girl a raise before you decide to sit in the next season.”

Some critics were less cynical and more direct and harsh.

“We shouldn't play with her. Don't let her see this (as if someone was watching this),” one user wrote.

Another critic wrote, “Pay her less. Stop running your yapping.”

In November, Reese went out of her way to respond to users with less than 300 followers on X.

“Did you realize I was drafted 7th in my class? The 'lost layup' rookie is shooting 39% a year and is still an All-Star, and was that the worst you've ever met me? ” wrote Reese. “Or have you just lay down with your dog in a house that hates Adam?”

Reese's shooting ability was not considered the strength of the game when he joined the WNBA after his Championship College career at LSU. At 6 feet and 3 inches tall, Lease was considered the best defender and rebounder. She responsives to her rookie reputation and correctly proved her suspicions of shooting ability.

She averaged 13.1 rebounds per game in 2024, becoming the first player in WNBA history with three consecutive games with over 20 rebounds. Reese defeated WNBA singleseason assist record on September 1st. But a few weeks later, end-of-season wrist surgery prevented her from keeping the record. Final MVP A'ja Wilson broke the record on September 11th.

Lease shot 39% from the field, just 18.8% from the 3-point range and just 73.6% at the free throw line. She missed layups multiple times in her first year.

Lease signed a four-year, $324,383 rookie contract ahead of his first WNBA season in 2024. She earned under $75,000 in her first year, less than she did in 2025.

In October, Lease revealed on Instagram live video that he couldn't afford to pay his bills based on his salary.

“I live beyond my means. People who don't like them pay their bills. Babies. I hope they know that the WNBA won't pay my bills at all,” she said. “I don't even think it's going to pay off. 1 of my bill. Literally, I'm trying to think about the rent for where I'm staying. Make math really quick. I don't even know my (WNBA) salary, $74,000? ”

Lease said she is paying $8,000 for rent.

“Baby, if you think about it… that wnba check doesn't pay anything,” she added. “Did you even pay my car note? …I can't even eat sandwiches with it. I can't even eat. I can't live.”

WNBA Players Union opted out of its current collective bargaining agreement in October, two years before its expiration date.

The current CBA will cover the 2025 season, so both sides have a year to negotiate a new agreement.
