Missing American student’s clothing found on Punta Cana beach: officials

A search for missing University of Pittsburgh student Sudiksha Konanki has led to a new development on the beach where she disappeared.

On Tuesday, two police sources told ABC News that Conanki's clothes were found in a portable beach bed near where she disappeared.

According to National Police La Policia Nacional, Conanki saw him enter the beach early Thursday morning at the five-star RIU Republica resort in Punta Cana.

The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office in Virginia, where Conanki lives, told Fox News Digital that Konanki is on a trip with a group of six female pit students.

Before her loss for, Conanki had seen her walking down the beach with six of them that night, three Dominican officials told ABC News.

Most people in the group returned to the hotel that night, but one person was behind with Conanki in the early hours of March 6th, ABC News reported, citing an investigation police report.

Dominican police say they are investigating one of Conanki's friends and are trying to support claims from the “young man” who was underwater on the day of her loss of disappearance.

The man reportedly went into the water with Conanki, but the rough waves made him sick, so he returned to the shore and left Conanki in the water.

In another version of the story, he says he's sick and leaves Conanki in the deep waters of his knees before he dies on the beach. According to a report from Noticias Sin, the man further claimed he saw Conanki walking along the beach before he fell asleep on the beach.

Sources told ABC News that security video captured a man returning to his hotel room just before 10am.

On Sunday night, Dominican officials told ABC News they believe Conanki owned.

Regarding Conanki and the man he was last seen, sources said he was not considered a suspect, ABC News reported. They added that police have not found evidence of violence.

A spokesman for the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said in Fox News Digital that “we're all about the possibilities and US law enforcement,” when a spokesman from the Fox News office asked if there was reason to suspect a foul play.

A spokesman for the hotel Conanki shared a statement with Fox News Digital. The team “provided full support to the authorities in the search and emergency protocols have been activated to ensure all necessary measures are taken.”

Several agencies are involved in the search activities, including the Dominican Republic's civil defense, firefighters, national police, the Dominican Navy and the Indian Embassy of the Dominican Republic.

The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office has filed a yellow notice issued by Interpol.

The University of Pittsburgh Police Department also provided an update Monday and said it was working with the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office in its search efforts for Conanki.

Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyarez told Fox & Friends Monday morning that his office is “still in the intelligence gathering phase.”

“All her friends are explained, that's good news,” he said. “Obviously, our hearts break for our family. We want to find her. We want to find her safe and healthy. There are so many we don't know now.”

Conanki was originally from India. Authorities say he is a legal permanent resident of Loudoun County, near Washington, D.C. She is 5 feet tall, 3 inches tall, has dark hair and brown eyes. She was finally wearing a brown bikini, hoop earrings, a bracelet and anklet.
