Aaron Rodgers' waiting game continues on the third day of NFL free agency.
As the Giants and Steelers are still pursuing former Jet quarterbacks, ESPN's Adam Schefter spoke on Tuesday “Waiting for everyone to see” how big Rogers Dominoes has become, and the four-time league MVP decides to do it next.
“I think everyone else is interested because the Pittsburgh Steelers and their fans don't know who you and everyone else are trying to throw football,” the network's top NFL insider said on SportsCenter.
“Look, they were at Matthew Stafford, he chose to go back to Los Angeles. They were at Justin Fields, he chose to go to the New York Jets. They are now on Aaron Rodgers and everyone is waiting to see Aaron Rodgers ultimately decide. Russell Wilson is even waiting on the wings.”
The Steelers began their 2024 season under center at Fields, 26, 26, as 36-year-old Wilson dealt with calf issues.
The former Seahawks star grabbed the reins in week 7. They won the first four starts with a 37-15 victory over Rogers' then-Jet. The Wilson Train later fell off the track, and the Steelers rode a five-game winning streak to close the year.
Fields, 4-2, was said to have an advantage in Wilson entering free agency, but chose a two-year, $40 million opportunity with the Jets.
Pittsburgh then turned his attention to 41-year-old Rogers. Like the Giants, they lost to Stafford Chase in late February.
Shefater believes it will take Rogers a minute to contemplate his options.
“[He] It appears to be the first choice between Pittsburgh and New York with the Giants, but Aaron Rodgers wants to handle his decisions and take the time to do the right thing. It's hard to know exactly what he's thinking, he's completely unaware, he's not going to talk about it for a man, but I think everyone is waiting to see him decide.
Pittsburgh's priorities look like Rogers, but if there's a conversation with the Pittsburgh Post Gazette that “will lead to a financial deal,” then “Wilson, who signed a one-year deal with the Steelers), will “can go back.” Reported on Tuesday.
Rodgers played in all 17 games after suffering a season-ending Achilles injury in September 2023, finishing 28 touchdowns and 11 interception seasons in New York.
Coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Moogie's new Jets Brass said they'll be in the future Hall of Fame as they change direction in their quarterback position last month.
