Washington – Republican lawmakers seem open to stripping Rep. Al Green from his committee position after disrupting President Donald Trump's joint speech to Congress, but Democrats continue to oppose the idea widely.
“In my view, speaking for the people of Medicare and Medicaid, I believe that Rep. Greene has far more respect for Americans than Elon Musk, who calls Social Security a Ponzi scheme.
Green was removed from his House room after he suspended Trump's speech to a joint session in Congress earlier this month. Democrats were later condemned by a bipartisan group of lawmakers, but some Republicans in the House Freedom Caucus are taking it a step further by threatening a resolution to remove Green from committee positions.
A Democrat who spoke with Fox News Digital opposed further punishment against Green, saying he was “a step away.”

“I think that's just too much of a step. When Joe Wilson called President Obama a liar, we didn't do that,” D-VA Congressman Don Bayer said.
Beyer added that Congress should demand a majority of members in order to condemn lawmakers.
“Now, it's just Democrats who blame Republicans, and Republicans blame Democrats. It should anger everyone, not just the other side,” Bayer said.
Rep. Chris Pappas, DN.H. said Greene “haves blame, accepts punishment and we all need to understand how we can move forward and focus on American work.”

However, Republicans who spoke with Fox News Digital were critical of Green's interrupting the president's speech.
RC Rep. Russell Fry said he never saw the resolution, but it was “what will he do at the end of the day?” [Green] What I did was absolutely merciless. ”
“The courtesy inside the house was violated in such a reckless manner,” Frye said. “For me, all options should be on the table.”
“I was sitting during the censorship vote and it was the first time I'd seen something like that happen,” R-Pa. “I realized it was so frightening when I couldn't even recognize a 13-year-old boy who had undergone multiple brain surgeries throughout the union.”
