Anthony Volpe set to make another offensive jump: Aaron Boone

Tampa – For the 2025 season, the Yankees hope to see the 2024 postseason version of Anthony Volpe.

So far, his spring statistics have not shown that he is still there.

Until Wednesday, Volpe was 28-5 with 10 strikeouts.

Nevertheless, the results of the spring do not always have a great weight on them. For Aaron Boone, they have nothing to expect from a 23-year-old Yankee in their third year.

“He feels like he's ready to do another offensive jump, the manager said Sunday at the Roger Dean Shevrorace Stadium in Jupiter, Florida.

In his first playoff experience, Volpe hit .286 with .815 OPS in 14 games, and eventually the Yankees lost to the Dodgers in Game 5 of the World Series.

The Shortstop also had 10 walks, attacking 13 times, reaching 29.3% during the regular season before significantly reducing their chase rate during the playoffs.

“His swing is different, and his movements are what you need,” Boone said. “Strength. Power. Experience now. Success – the consistent success he had that month of the playoffs. He had good at-bats after a good at-bat. He just started with improved moves with plates he brought in the offseason and continued to hone.

Between the end of the regular season and the playoffs, Volpe spent consistent days in the cage making minor adjustments to his swing. He hasn't tried to change anything since the end of the postseason.

“I just keep moving consistently and I feel really good,” Volpe posted on Sunday. “So when I got back into the game I felt really good about how the season ended. I started locking in some things and building on them. So I think it can be even better. So, I control the zone and have good at-bats so everything else should continue. I feel like I'm in a good place to do it.”

Lifelong Yankees fans chase these postseason numbers as they head out into their third year.

“I feel like I'm now at a level of confidence for me, looking into things that I might not be able to go through everything and get it,” Volpe said. “It's just an exciting feeling.”
