KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The woman who accused Chiefs wide receiver Xavier, who is worth attacking her last week, has been granted a protection order against him by a Texas judge if the district attorney has refused to pursue the charges so far.
Tia Jones' attorney confirmed the order in a statement Wednesday night with the Associated Press. They added that Jones “is fully working with law enforcement as he continues to actively investigate the violence that has occurred.”
“MS. Jones chose to use her voice to speak for herself,” Angelica Colliano said. “In doing so, she looks forward to seeing the facts and circumstances of the night become clear through formal legal proceedings and getting the justice she deserves.”
Worthy was arrested last Friday and was taken into custody in the county jail on charges of assault on family members and household members whose breath was blocked. He was released the following day when Williamson County District Attorney Sean Dick said his office had spoken to the witness and that he had not accepted the case at the time.
Williamson County includes parts of Austin who played college football at the University of Texas.
In a statement, Worthy's lawyers Chip Lewis and Sam Bassett said their clients were innocent of the charges against him. They said the allegations were made by a woman who lived in a valuable home and had been asked to leave multiple times over the past two weeks “at the time of her infidelity discovery.”
“She refused to vacate her residence and made many urgent efforts before resorting to this unfounded allegation against a worthy Mr,” the lawyer said. “The petitioner further destroyed the room in his residence, scratched Mr Worthy's face and tore a part of his hair. He told law enforcement at the time of the valuable case that he did not want to file charges against the petitioner.”
The Chiefs told the Associated Press on Saturday that they were aware of the situation and were still gathering information.
Worthy was selected by the Chief for the 28th overall pick in last year's draft after setting the fastest 40-yard dash record at the NFL combine. He got off to a quick start by scoring a pair of touchdowns in his NFL debut, and after a midseason lull he went on to chase an unprecedented third consecutive Super Bowl title, making him a wide receiver for the Chiefs Go.
The worthy value finished with 59 catches for 638 yards and 6 TDs, running 20 times for 104 yards and three more scores.
He was one of the few bright spots for the chiefs who lost 40-22 to Philadelphia in the Super Bowl. Value caught all 157 yard targets and a pair of touchdowns at the New Orleans Superdome.
