Democratic strategist James Kerrville said on Wednesday in the Chris Cuomo Project podcast that he believes President Donald Trump's second term is the most “severe crisis” the United States has ever faced.
“I think now I'm going to be very serious – I'm 80 – I think this is the most serious crisis this country has ever faced. I think the whole US idea is at risk. I really do. I think it's a deep problem fundamentally. And if the Democrats decide wisely, if they understand where they stand at this moment of history, then I think it's going to be very successful.
He added: “We have a president who is with Belarus, North Korea and Russia. Sorry, but it's a crisis. We have a president who has appointed some of the most incompetent people we can imagine in the US Congress. We have three biggest trading partners and a president who is launching a trade war, and we see that the beginnings become a financial meltdown that we barely imagine. We have a president who respects our institutions, and we do not respect the limits to power, the separation of authority in the constitution. I can't think of the big crisis that this country was my life. Until now. I think there was a president who made a mistake. The Iraq War is one – I thought they did it because they thought it would work, they didn't do it because they thought it would hurt the US. I think they were wrong. I'm not at all certain that Donald Trump loves America.”
