Port St. Lucy – The Mets will resort to new additions of first-day pitching assignments.
According to coach Carlos Mendoza, Clay Holmes will win the opening March 27th for Houston.
The right-handed right-handed, who moved from a relief to a starter this spring, received a mission against Kodaisenga and David Peterson.
Other possibilities for starting the season include Griffin Canning, Paul Blackburn and Tyler Megill.
“(Holmes) got it,” Mendoza said Friday at Clover Park. “We like what we see. We know the sample size is small, but it's very encouraging. He put himself in a good position. He showed up early at camp and was ahead of everyone.”
Arrived on a three-year contract worth $38 million, Holmes last started his regular season game with the Pirates in 2018.

Holmes became the Yankees All-Star rescuer.
