Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) praised his fellow Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) in an interview this week, saying that the Pennsylvania legislator is “a long journey” and “the only” Democrat.
“John Fetterman has come a long way. He has had all sorts of health issues since he arrived here, but he teaches him that he is the only leader who speaks common sense,” Tuberville appeared on Newsmax.
Fetterman warned his Democrat colleagues that if they weren't enough, the closure would “disturb” the country and risk sending the US into a recession, in order for the Republicans to fund the Continuous Resolution (CR) created by September.
“It will shut down governments, put the country in chaos, put a recession at risk, and replace 30-day CR coagulations that have been 100% failed,” Fetterman wrote Thursday.
The Senate voted Friday to avoid government shutdowns with a 54-46 vote, with Senators Jeanne Shaheen (DN.H.) and Angus King (I-Maine) supporting the measure.
Democrats, both Congressional chambers and party activists, expressed vehement opposition to supporting CR. Tuberville said Thursday that Democrats are suffering from the “Awakening Mind Virus” but will ultimately support the fundraising bill.
“I call it a woken mind virus. That's what Democrats have. They don't want to work with anyone, they don't want to work to save this country. There's no way they can shut this government down, it's going to be a political suicide,” the Alabama Senator said. “They will somehow somehow reach an agreement tomorrow.”
Tubeville also suggested that Democrats should “lay off Chuck Schumer about three months ago and have them a new leader with common sense.”
“Their leadership is getting them in trouble because they don't do anything to help Americans and President Trump,” he said on Newsmax.
On Friday, 10 Senate Democrats voted to advance funding for the final vote.
Apart from Fetterman, the GOP bill was supported by Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer (DN.Y.). Chuck Schumer (DN.Y.) was a “very bad” bill a day ago, Democrat Whip Dick Durbin (Illinois), Katherine Cortez Mast (D-Nev.), Maggie Hassan (DN.H.), Gary Peters (d-mash), d-mash) Kirsten Gillibrand (DN.Y.), Jeanne Shaheen (DN.H.), and Angus King (Mayne), an independent lawmaker conspired with Democrats.
