Ex-NY Rep. Nita Lowey dies at 87, served 30 years in House

Her family said Nita Roy, a former New York lawmaker, was the first woman to serve in Congress for 32 years and chair the House Appropriations Committee, and passed away at the age of 87.

A solid alliance of Democrats – former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Clinton friends, died Saturday at her suburban Harrison home, according to a statement from her family. CBS New York's Tony Eyeello got it.

“Nita's family was at the heart of her life, just as she was all of us,” the statement said. “We miss her more than she can say and become very comfortable knowing that she is living a complete and purposeful life.”
