Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) and judicial oversight are suing California over a controversial practice of allowing mail-in votes to be counted a week after Election Day, saying it is a biased practice that violates the constitution.
For the past decade, California has protected voters' rights by Election Day, allowing them to count late votes as long as they are consumed by Election Day. As a result, many elections where one candidate appears to lead election night will be reversed over the next few weeks. They usually support Democrats who pioneered the use of votes in their voting efforts.
Complaintfiled by Judicial Watch as plaintiff on Issa's behalf on March 13, nominated California Secretary of State Shirley Weber as defendant, saying in part:
It adds “I'll arrive late” [vote by mail] Voting tends to support Democratic candidates and provide unfair election advantages to incumbent Republican Congress opponents. ”
In a similar case in Louisiana last year, the US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit I hit it The ruling did not affect the 2024 election, but was a state law that allowed votes to be accepted five days after election day.
“I will be a fierce defense of California's Common Sense Election Act and protect the rights of all voters who can count their vote,” Weber said. statement Quote by San Diego Union – Tribune.
“We are grateful for Judicial Watch's support in this important lawsuit,” says Senator Issa. I saidin a statement released by the organization. “California voters need all the help they can get to ensure a fair election.”
