Mets’ Ronny Mauricio won’t play in spring training games as slow return from ACL injury continues

Port St. Lucy – Ronnie Mauricio's spring does not include opportunities to win a batting at Grapefruitreug.

According to Carlos Mendoza, the Mets infielder, who missed rehabilitation after surgery last season, has repaired the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, but has not progressed to the point where he is ready to take the next step.

Early in the camp, Mendoza showed he hopes Mauricio will play in the game by mid-March.

“I probably got it wrong,” Mendoza said Sunday at Clover Park. “There's no setback, there's nothing there. He's making good progress and we want to keep it that way. He's getting closer. When will it be? I don't know. He's continuing to pursue the program, he's fully active and he's responding well.”

Mauricio had surgery last January and subsequent treatment in August to remove scar tissue from her knees. The manager said Mauricio's knees “flame up” in October or November.

“But then, it got to the point where everything was heading in the right direction, so there was no further set-off,” the Mets said before losing 5-0 to the Astros in an exhibition game at Clover Park.
