Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) on Sunday did not directly address whether he supports Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (DN.Y.) in a hypothetical major challenge to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (DN.Y.).
“That's four years from now,” Crockett said CNN's Jake Tupper about the “state of the Union.”
“If I had asked me at least two years later, I would have an absolute answer,” she continued. “But I can say there are a lot of people who are watching his leadership at this moment, and this is the moment.
“If there's an election, I don't even know what an election will look like in four years,” she added.
Crockett, who has emerged as a young Democratic star in recent years along with Ocasio-Cortez, said that when the 2028 election comes, there may be appetites for fresher candidates.
“I definitely think that young, fresh leadership depends not only on which part of the spectrum you're in, but also a lot of us who might be looking for it, especially in New York,” she added.
The interview is due to intense scrutiny from some people in his party over Schumer's decision not to block a continuing GOP-led resolution to extend government funds up to six months.
The story of Ocasio-Cortez, where Schumer could challenge him for a Senate seat even before Schumer was re-elected in the Senate in 2022.
