One of the strong unions at FDNY is to support city councillor Justin Brannan in a two-way race in the Big Apple Secretary's Democratic primary, the Post learned.
“We know that Justin has always had our backs, so we are proud to support him as the Chief,” wrote Andy Ansbro, a uniformed firefighter association, in a statement from Brooklyn Pol.
“Justin understands that every second counts in emergencies, which is why he was a fierce advocate for increasing FDNY funds to recover the fifth firefighter of all engine companies,” Ansbro said.
The 20,000 UFA voted on that support slate last week, is the first influential union to consider the mayor's race.
The Secretary's job as the Big Apple's financial watchdog has wielded a tremendous amount of strength over urban workers' pension funds and has made its support from the fire department prominent.
“I am extremely proud to believe in the support of the Association of Firefighters in Uniforms.” Brannan said. “As more frontline firefighters, there will be fewer response times and safer results for both firefighters and protecting New Yorkers. We owe them and all New Yorkers that we can make sure that firefighters have what they need to save lives.”

Brannan is facing Manhattan President Mark Levine, who has gained dozens of approvals, including many well-known lawmakers.
Brooklyn City Councilman Susan Zuan was accused of biting a police officer during a rally outside a homeless shelter, and most recently supported Levine.
Other FDNY Unions, a uniformed firefighters association, have yet to support the primary candidate scheduled for June 24th.
