18 percent rate economy as 'excellent' or 'good': Poll

A survey released Sunday found that 18 percent of Americans are giving positive ratings to the current state of the economy.

in NBC News Vote1% of respondents said they rate the economy's current state as “excellent”, while 17% said they rate the economy as “good.”

Meanwhile, 43% say the economy is “poor” and 39% say it is “the only fair.”

The numbers fall short of the answers given in a poll taken at about the same time as former President Biden's term and President Trump's first term.

In April 2021, months after the Biden administration, roughly a third of responses rated the economy as positive. 4% said it was “good” and 30% said it was “good.”

In 2021, 22% of respondents rated the economy as “poor” (half of what we did today), while 41%, as they did today, said it was “fair.”

After Trump took office for the first time in April 2017, the economic outlook has brightened considerably more than today. 2% described the economy as “good”, 36% said “good”, 43% said “only fair”, and only 17% said “poor”.

NBC noted that the current numbers under Trump are still higher than Biden's lowest in terms of economic attitudes, but added that it is the lowest in the vote since 2014.

The latest NBC survey was conducted between March 7 and 11, and included 1,000 registered voters. The margin for error is 3.1% points.
