The US Veterans Affairs Agency (VA) on Monday announcement “phasing off” gender-changing drugs for transgender-identifying veterans.
“I'm not rude to anyone, but the VA should not focus on helping veterans try to change sex. The majority of veterans and Americans agree. That's why this is the right decision,” VA executive director Doug Collins said in a statement.
“All eligible veterans, including identified veterans, are always welcome in the VA and will always receive the merits and services they have earned under the law.
The department said it was “completely follow“President Donald Trump's executive order”“We protect women from gender ideological extremism and restore biological truth to the federal government.” A US policy that recognizes two genders: male and female. ”
“These genders have not changed and are based on fundamental and indisputable reality,” reads Order.
The VA said all savings generated by stopping gender changes can regain independence in order to support seriously injured beneficiaries, such as those who have been paralyzed or amputated, where drugs for gender discomfort are redirected and drugs are regained.
The department said it would soon cease to provide crosshormones, except for veterans who have already “already received such care from the VA” or veterans who have “received such care from the military as a separation from military services and are eligible for VA health care.”
“Veterans who do not meet the above criteria are not eligible for sex crosshormone therapy through VA Healthcare,” the press release reads. “The VA does not provide patients with any other medical or surgical therapy for gender-inflict therapy under any circumstances.”
“Identifying as a qualified veteran or trans diagnosed with gender dysphoria will continue to receive comprehensive VA health care, including prevention and mental health care. Today's announcement will not affect VA health care for eligible veterans identified as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or queer,” the department added.
The VA noted that it “does not provide” gender reassignment surgery, but has been promoting the use of sexual change drugs and social transitions for over a decade.
- Cross-sex hormone therapy
- Voice and Communication Training
- Prosthetics that maintain the so-called gender, such as breast morphology, breast binders, post-vesin plasm dilator sets, packers, surgical compression vests, wigs and so on.
The VA was also providing letters of assistance to veterans recommending non-VA providers who perform sexual intercourse surgery. These services were approved under Directive 1341(4) of the Veterans Health Department.
The department said it did not maintain a consistent or reliable record of the total number of veterans who received sex change drugs and services, or how much money was spent on them. The Veterans Health Department estimates that less than 10% of the 9.1 million veterans enrolled at VA Health are identified as transgender.
