LOS ANGELES, CA – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) received 270,000 applications from homeowners in LA Fires, but 13,000 homes have been destroyed.
FEMA officials have given them an astounding figure of more than 20 times more than eligible applicants as concerns about fraudulent applications continue to plague agents more than two months after the fire.
As reported by Breitbart News, many displaced people tried to apply for FEMA relief, but it turns out that someone else has already applied with their name and address and is locked out of the system.
FEMA tries to easily apply for relief funds, but the downside is that it makes it easier for scammers to use the system. As requested by Rep. Brad Sherman (D-CA), FEMA officials said the issue is the main reason for ending applications at the end of the month, rather than extending it for a year at the end of the month.
While identity theft in natural disasters may seem shocking, it is not uncommon, especially when maps of affected areas and addresses are easily available online. There are already a few individuals Arrest Regarding fraud related to the FEMA grant in La Fires, it is suspected that he returned to Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans in 2005 to collect similar fraud claims over 20 years.
Newly established Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman warned in January that fraudsters would be down to LA victims, who were asked to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI/.
