The World’s First Sixth-Generation Fighter Jet

The US Air Force will produce the world's first sixth generation fighter jet, dubbed the F-47, announced Friday by President Donald Trump.

“In my direction, I am pleased to announce that the US Air Force is advancing the world's first sixth generation fighter jet,” Trump said from his oval office that Secretary of Defense Pete Hegses had flanked it.

“Nothing is coming close to the world. It's known as the F-47,” Trump said.

Trump said the jets have been in the works for a long time, and after a strict and thorough competition between America's top aerospace companies, the Air Force has awarded a contract to make the jets Boeing.

Watch – President Trump and Secretary of Defense Hegses speak in the Oval Office:

“The F-47 will be the most advanced, most capable and deadly aircraft ever built,” Trump explained, adding that the experimental version of the plane has been secretly flying for almost five years.

“We are confident that it will greatly overwhelm the capabilities of other countries,” he continued. “The F-47 is equipped with cutting-edge stealth technology, a practically impossible and unprecedented force.”

“The American enemy never comes. Hopefully we don't need to use it for that purpose, but you need to have it.

Trump said planes fly along with “a lot of drones,” adding, “that's something other planes can't do.”

The president said a new fleet of planes would be built and “in the air” during his administration “for the next few years.”

He said the jets ensure that the US continues to control the air. The president did not reveal the price of the jet. Because he said it gives some of the technology and the size of the plane.

Trump also called the contract “a historic investment in our defense industrial bases and helped keep America at the cutting edge of aerospace and technology.”

He says his allies want to buy planes.

Hegses spoke after the president and called it “a big day for our fighters.”

“This is a big day for our country and a big day in the world,” he added. “And for your leadership, for your clarity, we're going, America is going to have [generations] In the future of aviation advantage for this sixth generation fighter. ”

Hegseth said that Jet will “send a very direct and clear message to all our allies that we are not going anywhere, allowing us to project our forces across the world on as much enemy as possible, not thwarted for future generations.”

He called it “historic investments in the US military, the American industry and the American industry.”

He said the previous administration was potentially ready to scrap it until Trump suspends the program and revives it.

“Under the previous administration, we looked like fools. We're not. President Trump has reestablished American leadership. The F-47 is part of that,” he said.

Also present was General David Albin, the Air Force Chief of Staff, who thanked Trump and Hegses for their “unwavering commitment to our army.”

“This is a big day for the US Air Force. While air domination is not birthright, it becomes synonymous with the US Air Force. However, air domination requires earning every day. We can clear the path of ground forces below. It was our commitment to the battle.

“And as the next generation of air-dominated families, we will be able to maintain that promise in the future,” he added.

“This is more of an air force. This is more of an option for the president. We say our mission in the US Air Force is to fly planes anytime, anywhere, fight and win. If you want to go anywhere, you need a platform wherever you go.”

“It's more deterrent, more ability. It's what peace through future forces will look like,” Allvin concluded.
