The California mother is said to have ripped her son's throat after a trip to Disneyland before the boy failed to take his life to come back to see his father.
Sarisa Ramaraj, 48, was charged with one count of murder and one count of using a deadly weapon personally. Orange County District Attorney's Office. If convicted, she faces up to 26 years in prison.
Ramaraju is allegedly murdered his 11-year-old son, Yatin Ramaraju, after closing his three-day trip to Disneyland on Wednesday.
After his divorce in 2018, Yathin, whose custody was split between his parents, was due to be returned to his father on the day he was murdered.
Ramaraju called authorities at 9:10am on Wednesday to confess that he had killed his son in a hotel room at La Quintine & Sweets in Santa Ana, California.
She also told them over the phone that she had already taken an unspecified number of pills, apparently, according to the DA's office.
Authorities found Yathin lay in a bed surrounded by souvenirs from a trip with his mother. They also recovered the large knife Ramaraj had bought the day before.
Ramaraju was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. She was released Thursday and taken to police custody.
According to the DA's office, Yathin appeared to have been dead for several hours before Ramaraju called the police.
“A child's life should not balance two parents whose anger towards each other outweighs their love for their children. Anger can make them forget who you like and what you do.”
“The safest place for a child should be in his parents' arms. Rather than loving his arm around his son, she slit his throat and removed him from the world that brought him in the most cruel twist of destiny.”
Ramaraju is in custody at Santa Ana Prison and her next court appearance will be set for Thursday, April 17th.
