Utah driver injured after smashing into turkey on the interstate

The Utah driver spent some time in the hospital over the weekend, flying the windshield of a car after hitting a turkey on an interstate highway.

The Garland Fire Department shared its story on its Facebook page on Saturday.

“There are a lot of risks when traveling at highways down interstates. Includes turkeys. Yes, you read it correctly,” the department wrote.

The unspecified driver was moving north on Interstate 15 on Saturday, when Turkey decided to cross traffic.

The driver hit a turkey and then went through the windshield of the car and crashed. A photo of the fire station shows the front windshield and feathers busted around the driver's seat inside the car.

The turkey did not survive the shock, but the driver was subjected to life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital “in good spirits.”

“This is a great reminder to keep an eye out for animals while traveling,” the department wrote. “Garland Fire has seen multiple vehicle accidents on this interstate, including wildlife, including elk and moose.
