Prominent high school girls’ basketball coach — an 81-year-old male — fired after yanking star player’s ponytail

The prominent high school girls' basketball coach from New York has been fired after being caught up in a current video screaming star player ponytail following a loss in the Friday night championship game.

He approached senior Haley Monroe from behind and lost 43-37 to LaFargeville High School, the players lined up at the awards ceremony to pull a ponytail. Daily Gazette reported.

Other stories are at the heart of Monroe's teammate Ahmia Tompkins amidst a scandalous incident. He gets between Zullo and Monroe and is seen in a video that appears to be saying “no” to Zullo.

The paper said on Sunday that Monroe's family filed a formal complaint against Zlo, a state basketball hall of fame member and coach since 1970, citing a source familiar with the situation.

On Friday night, Zullo insisted to WTENTV's sports director that Monroe had directed him to exp, the Daily Gazette said, but the coach immediately apologised.

“I deeply regret my actions after losing to Lafageville on Friday night in the Class D state championship game. I would like to offer a sincere apologies to Haley and her family, our team, and the good people at Northville Central School. As a coach, as a coach, it is unacceptable to put your hands on players.

The Daily Gazette said neither the Rensselaer County District Attorney's Office nor the public safety of Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, where the game was played, has officially released accusations against Zullo. The paper added that neither agency responded immediately to requests for comment.

Monroe's family declined to comment on the situation on Sunday, the Daily Gazette reported.

However, Northville Central School principal Sarachouncey responded quickly to the incident following a Friday night match after a clip of Zullo's ponytail pull circulated on social media, the paper said. Chauncey didn't give the special name Zullo, but in a community letter he denounced the coach's actions and said he no longer serves as a district coach, adding that Daily Gazette.

Rescue teammate

Other stories lie in a scandalous incident that focuses on Monroe's teammate Ahmia Tompkins. He appears between Zullo and Monroe, and is seen in a video that appears to be telling Zullo “No.”

Furthermore, as the furious Zullo begins to enter Tompkins's face and point his fingers at her, Tompkins does not retreat and points at him immediately.

Another twist is that Zullo is Tompkins' great uncle, the Daily Gazette said.

Zullo's high school coaching career included the 1987 Shenendehowa Boys' Team Class A state title. The paper added that his career record is 573-249. His two seasons with Northville are the only leading women's teams in his career, the Daily Gazette added.

According to the paper, Monroe moved from Baltimore to Northville during his eighth grade, playing for the high school varsity team for four seasons, finishing his career with 1,982 points.
