‘Snow White’ backlash led to Disney intervening on star’s social media posts

The producer behind Disney's “Snow White” film struggled with the backlash caused by a social media post from the film's star Rachel Zegler, Variety reported.

Diversity reported “Snow White” producer Mark Pratt was personally involved in the backlash surrounding Zegler after sharing an anti-Israel post in August while promoting the film.

“And always remember, free Palestine,” she wrote.

The studio reportedly grew up worrying about the post after Zegler's Israeli co-star Garrott took the spike at the time, causing the company to pay for additional security.

“She didn't understand what that meant for the film, for gals, for anyone, or the impact of her actions,” an insider told Variety.

Pratt is said to have stepped in again after Zegler clashed with people who voted for President Donald Trump after winning the 2024 election in November.

“Supporters, Trump voters and Trump himself may never know peace,” Zegler wrote on Instagram, adding, “f —Donald Trump.”

According to the report, Zegler later worked with a “social media guru” paid by the Disney team to apologise for the post after refusing to post on social media leading up to the film's premiere.

One of the anonymous top agents told Variety that Disney hadn't managed to control the story properly from the start after Zegler's initial comment on criticism of the original 2022 1937 Snow White film went viral.

“The first time she shoots it in the mouth, you put it in the bud,” the agent said.

The film is plagued by several controversy, including using CGI to portray the Seven Dwarves, delaying the release of the film for a year and ultimately reducing the film's Hollywood premiere.

Fox News Digital has asked the Disney and Zegler teams for comment.

Disney premiere of the controversial live-action “Snow White” remake

Studio estimates that “Snow White” opened on Friday in the US and Canada with $43 million ticket sales, making it number one in the domestic box office. It costs an estimated $250 million. The film sold $44 million overseas.

The opening weekend was a disappointment as it was projected to make up more than $85 million domestically over the weekend last month, but the forecast slipped downwards.

Critics were not kind to the live-action release of “Snow White.” The film currently has a rotten tomato score of 42%. In other words, the majority of the reviews were negative.
