The Trump administration is investigating the school system in Portland, Oregon, for its attitude of allowing trans athletes to play on women's track teams in violation of an administration's order banning transgender sports and violating an order banning transgender athletes from women's sports.
Ed's Division I sent a letter Portland Public Schools superintendent Kimberly Armstrong and the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) have informed them that the federal government is violating Title IX rules that protect girls from sex discrimination. hill.
The DOE says Leodis V. McDaniel High School has allowed trans athletes to play as girls over the past two seasons.
The school is risking losing federal funds for breaking Title IX rules after President Trump signed an executive order banning trans players from playing as women.
“We are notifying all schools of taxpayer dollars. If men take over women's sports teams or break into locker rooms, they will investigate a violation of Title IX and run a risk of federal funds,” Trump said of his order.
The school system defended itself in an official statement, but added that they are working with federal authorities.
“I am adamant about legal responsibility and deeply appreciate the rights of all students who are treated with dignity, safety and respect,” added Secretary Armstrong.
“We are actively working with law and state partners to navigate this complex legal landscape,” Armstrong said. “Because of the sensitive nature of the issue and the obligation to protect the privacy of students, I am limited to what I can share at this time, but I want to be clear: my commitment and our district's commitment is to do the right thing for all students, especially the most vulnerable students.”
Oregon law requires students who insist on identifying school officials as transgender should be allowed to play on their chosen team.
Oregon is not the only state to act in violation of the new Title IX rules. School officials in Philadelphia and Maine are both controlled by Democrats, but also go against the president's orders.
