Boy, 17, charged with NYC murder of migrant teen that sparked revenge call from Tren de Aragua-linked youth gang: cops

The 17-year-old was charged with murder in December for stabbing the death of an immigrant teenager over “gang beef.”

The teen was arrested for murder and faces alleged gang attacks and attack charges in connection with a fatal attack on 17-year-old Yeremi Colina in Manhattan, Broadway, near John Street, police said.

Corina, who was carrying her ID from the Roosevelt Hotel immigration shelter in Midtown, was also punched and kicked during the Fracas, officers said.

The 18-year-old man was also suffered a life-threatening injury after being touched in the arm during a brawl, authorities said.

The newly charged teen is the second suspect arrested in connection with a fatal brawl. The 16-year-old was arrested on Christmas Eve and charged with assault by a gang, according to officers and charges filed with Manhattan Supreme Court.

The pair are “being helped by two or more other people,” the indictment said.

After the murder, the crew of the Tren de Algua consolidated, known as Los Diablos de la 42 – Spanish for “The Devil of the 42nd Street” – featured the threat of revenge on social media, NYPD officials said at the time.

“They expressed their sadness and said their hearts were broken, but also described them as 'every heart shot,'” NYPD Detective Bureau assistant Jason Savino told reporters Monday. “Kokoro is called Afro-Caribbean immigrants, so there's a bit of gang beef, and that's obviously playing towards motivation.”

Members of the victim's crew told investigators that their rivals were flashing gang signs, the officer added.

“Their response wanted to stand up to them about why they flashed gangster signs, and that's the story that ultimately comes from the victims' side,” Sabino said.

However, surveillance footage reveals that the victim's crew may have been invaders, Sabino noted.

“They are traveling towards a group of six black men. What they're doing is what they're actually calling, and at some point they're jogging towards the opposite group,” Savino said. “In the end, two groups were involved and I'll say this: Both sides had weapons.”

“The victim actually swings an unknown object in a downward motion just before being stabbed by one of the assailants,” he said.

In addition to the knife, two wooden sticks were recovered from the scene, according to Savino.

“All the indication at this point is that, as far as motivation is concerned, this is a crew-motivated incident,” added Savino.

The 17-year-old suspect was taken into custody without bail during his arrest Wednesday and is scheduled to reappear in court on April 1.

The young teen was arrested in December and held on $100,000 in cash bail, $250,000 in insurance bonds and $300,000 in partially secure guaranteed bonds.

His next court appearance is scheduled for April 2, records show.
