Zelle Network terminated its cash transfer service on Tuesday with a standalone application, redirecting users to more than 2,200 banks and credit unions, and is already offering the service instead.
When you try to sign in to the app, users will encounter a message saying “We can no longer send and receive money.”
“You can log in until August 11, 2025,” the pop-up continues, but “You will not be remitted or received. To continue using ZELLE®, please register with one of the over 2,200 mobile banking apps that offer Zelle®.”

The news isn't a surprise. In fact, the prevalence of financial institutions offering Zelle's services on its own platform has pushed users away from standalone apps, the company said. Released October 31st -That was why they chose to pull the plug into it.
As of Tuesday, only 2% of Zelle users were still making cash transfers via the standalone app. The majority access payment networks through their preferred financial institutions.

Although it is no longer available for financial transactions, the Zelle app is still available and accessible. However, the remaining lifespan is spent as a directory of consumer education platforms and banking apps that provide services.

Launched in 2017, Zelle quickly became one of the largest payment processing apps on the market, with a user base of 151 million people.

Most users who have already accessed Zelle through online banking will not be affected by app shutdowns, the company said in an October release.
