Suns’ tear down expected to ‘start with Kevin Durant’ after Mike Budenholzer firing

Mike Budenholzer’s firing is just the beginning of the Sandstorm, which is trying to hit Phoenix this offseason. And it is expected that only one person, Devin Booker and Kevin Durant, will survive.

“From an epic perspective, it’s Devin Booker and where [he stands] In all of these things.” ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on Monday. “From my understanding, he remains the foundation of everything they do in Phoenix, but everything else exists for discussion with the Suns except Devin Booker.”

“Everything else” said Charania about ESPN’s “NBA today?”

Well, that part concerns Durant.

He expects changes to Phoenix’s multiple major rosters, starting with Kevin Durant.

“It is said that Sands and Durant and his business partner Rich Kleiman will work together at his next trading house,” Charania reported.

No other Phoenix’s biggest contract players have been mentioned, such as 31-year-old Bradley Beal. He brings a completely different dilemma with his non-trade clauses and sub-dramas. Beal averaged 17 points, 3.7 assists and 3.3 rebounds.

Rumors of trade surrounding Durant have swirled throughout the season as the Suns struggled before they missed the play-in tournament after 36-46.

“For the team with the highest payroll in the NBA, ownership there, Matt Ishvia, is clear that he has all his resources in this group,” Charania said. “But now, moving forward requires a big decision.”

If Durant was traded, it would be the fifth different team in his 36-year-old career.

He spent nine seasons with the Thunder, including his rookie season, where the franchise was still Seattle Super Sonics, three seasons with the Warriors, three seasons, and each around two with the Net and the Suns.

Where is he heading this time?

“Many of them do that [be determined] I feel like Kevin Durant is away from the playoffs and which teams win the championship,” Charania said.

As for Booker, he’s ready to watch another new head coach passing through Phoenix assume he’s still in place.

In his 10 NBA seasons at age 28, he has a whopping seven different head coaches. Only one of them coached Booker for just over a season. Monty Williams is the only exception as he was with the franchise from 2019 to 2023, helping to bring Phoenix to the NBA Finals.
