Attorneys for celebrity murderers Eric and Lyle Menendez said the Los Angeles District Attorney had personal revenge against the pair and wanted to launch his case at an explosive court hearing that left the brothers undecided freedom.
On Thursday, a LA County judge postponed the brother’s already very late responsive hearing. This decides whether they will walk freely after shooting wealthy parents Jose and Kitty Menendez with shotguns in 1989.
The judge agreed to weigh the two new moves before making the final call on Lyle and Eric’s fate.
One claim asks the court to consider a new state parole board report on how dangerous the brothers are, while another asks the court to reject district attorney Nathan Hochman, whom the brothers’ attorneys say is biased against the pair, allowing the state attorney general to take over the case.
A hearing on these two allegations is scheduled for May 9th.
Deputies of Menendez’s attorney Mark Galagos and district attorney Nathan Hochman traded the interruption and shaming before the judge finally called for a break.
“He’s degraded us and keeps us degraded!” Assistant District Attorney Habib Varian said after Galagos destroyed the prosecutors by “returning to work” for his family’s “retaliation” by showing pictures of the grizzly crime scene in court.
“You should deteriorate!” Galagos fired back.
Golly photos of Jose and Kitty’s bodies were gushed out by unsuspecting families at last week’s hearing, shocked to see them put Jose’s 85-year-old sister in the hospital earlier this week.
Galagos said the photos are one of many “media stunts” and “dog and pony show” tactics, questioning Da Hochman’s intentions.
One of these tactics allegations came with an attempt to postpone hearings to give courts the opportunity to consider a new “risk assessment” from the state’s parole board.
The assessment was conducted as part of a simultaneous order ordered by Governor Gavin Newsom. Governor Gavin Mewsom may choose to give them generosity, even if the local courts are locked up.
Although the rating is not publicly available, Dahochman appears to imply a lack of regret by his brother, or “insights.”
“If you minimize criminal behavior… you don’t show “insight” about it. And if you don’t provide insight into it, you’re not rehabilitated,” the DA told reporters outside the court on Thursday morning.
“We hope that when he makes a decision, virtually every part of the photograph will be in front of the judge,” Hochman added.
That afternoon, after a chaotic hearing, Galagos blasted Hochmann’s press conference as a stunt that used secret information to shake up the public.
“Based on the analysis we’ve done… this is just the DA’s justice move, just like I’ve had,” Galagos told reporters outside the courthouse.
“That turned out to be a chuckle… [Hochman] Have you personally invested in this? Does he have a personal grudge against Lyle and Eric? ” said Brian Friedman, a lawyer for more than a dozen families who agreed to testify on behalf of Eric and Lyle.
The Galagos seeks to cut the charges of Lyle and Eric to manslaughter charges from a first-degree murder rap handed over after two famous trials in the ’90s.
Manslaughter penalty will allow them to walk freely for the time they are offered immediately.
Lyle and Eric Menendez were 21 and 18 years old, respectively. I bought a shotgun and ran wealthy music producers Kitty and Jose in the living room of the Beverly Hills Mansion. They later claimed that their fathers sexually abused them as children, and that they feared that both parents would kill them in order to hide the truth.
The 2024 Netflix Diculmentary brings the pair back to the public’s eyes and new evidence – carrying a letter from Eric before the murder explaining the abuse – appeared to shake up the former Da George Gascón into their cause.
However, Nathan Hochman personally dismissed their story, and his office did it all with its power to keep his brothers locked in.
However, if the judge agrees to indict him from the case next month, the DA’s enthusiasm could work against him.
