The conservative former president of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro released a video on social media on Wednesday showing the recovery process following an emergency 12-hour operation on Sunday.
Bolsonaro was attending a political rally in the state of Rio Grande do Norte last week when he experienced severe abdominal pain and was urgently admitted to a hospital in Natal city. The doctors determined that he suffered from adhesion reflexes as a result of several surgeries he has relied on since surviving the assassination attempt in 2018.

“I have already started respiratory and exercise physiotherapy sessions and despite the restrictions outside my bed, I am walking,” read Bolsonaro’s message. “There is no prediction of discharge from the ICU yet. I continue to receive medical advice at this sensitive time to avoid accepting visitors, except for my family.”
“I am truly grateful for all your prayers, messages and affection. We will remain strong with faith and confidence in our recovery,” he continued.
In a post Thursday, Bolsonaro revealed that his clinical evolution was positive and that he would not feel any more pain. Bolsonaro added that clinical testing has shown improvements in his condition.
Bolsonaro also said the chances of complications decrease as post-surgery progress continues daily.
“I still have oral fasting with exclusive parenteral nutrition and am responsible for my treatment,” Bolsonaro said. “Today I will continue my exercise physiotherapy program (sitting from bed and walking) – An important stage for my recovery. ”
“We have not received visitors yet for medical advice. There are currently no predictions for discharge from the ICU. I would like to emphasize that all measures are meticulous, with constant view of my health and the health and peace of mind of those who are rooted for my family and for me,” he continued. “I would like to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for their gratitude, prayers and respect during this delicate time.”
